Snowflake Modernization, OpenCrush UI, and Summer Workflows

Cluster keys that cut 45s queries to 3s, and a 30% drop in onboarding friction

This week has been focused on performance tuning — both in migrating legacy analytical tables to Snowflake and refining user onboarding screens in my mobile dating side project.

Pharma Data Strategy: Modernizing Warehouse Schemas in Snowflake

Many pharma commercial teams are moving away from legacy SQL Server instances to Snowflake for better scalability. But a simple lift-and-shift of tables doesn't give you performance gains if you don't redesign your schema for columnar storage.

I spent the last week reworking a client's omnichannel database schema. By transitioning their massive, un-indexed transaction tables to cluster-key aligned Snowflake tables and setting up dynamic query warehouse scaling, we reduced dashboard query times from 45 seconds to under 3 seconds. Columnar data warehouses require thinking in wide tables rather than normalized relations.

Side Projects: OpenCrush Onboarding & Firebase Auth

On the side, I've been iterating on OpenCrush, a Firebase-backed dating application.

Early testers gave feedback that the profile creation flow had too much friction. This week, I used Claude to redesign the Firebase user registration functions, moving profile setup from a single monolithic form to a metric-forward multi-step wizard. It reduced user drop-off in our internal testing sandbox by almost 30%.

Builder Life: The Power of Simple UI Layouts

As builders, we love adding features. But this week taught me that the best user experience is often removing code, not adding it. Simplifying navigation paths in OpenCrush did more for user satisfaction than any new feature we planned.
